Undergraduate auditions

Steps to becoming a Music major at Wayne State

1. Apply to Wayne State University - Apply and be accepted to the University through Undergraduate Admissions. Prospective students should complete WSU application (all application materials submitted) at least one month prior to Department of Music audition date.
2. Submit a Department of Music Application by the deadline for the semester you wish to begin. You will receive further instructions on how to complete your audition once the application is approved.
3. Complete a Live Audition or Submit Audition Recording. Upon approval of your Department of Music Application, auditioning students will receive instructions for an in-person audition or how to submit a recorded audition on a principal instrument or voice. For audition requirements for the various programs please visit our Audition Requirements page.
  • Live Auditions: When participating in a live audition, you will complete your Audition, Theory Placement Test, and participate in interviews (if required by your program) on your audition day. We highly encourage this option.
  • Recorded Auditions: Students who choose to submit a recorded audition must complete a Zoom Sightreading test, Zoom Theory Placement Test, and Zoom interviews (if required by your program). The department will contact you to schedule these sessions after your application is approved. Students will not be considered for admission until these steps are completed.
